SERIES BRINGS ARTS, CULTURE AND SCIENCE INTO THE CLASSROOM
Detroit
Public Television has joined forces with Wayne
RESA (Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency) and 14
cultural institutions in southeast Michigan to create smARTtv,
a series of teleconferences and videos distributed directly to Wayne County
schools, primarily to grades five through eight. For information on purchasing
the smARTmedia kit, contact Bob Kaminski at Wayne RESA at (734)
334-1357.SmARTtv programs draw on the resources of such cultural institutions
as the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Zoo, Charles H. Wright Museum
of African American History, Detroit Symphony Orchestra and others to
create "electronic field trips" and achieve educational goals set by the
Michigan Curriculum Framework.
Detroit Public Television itself was the subject of one of the first
programs (11/30/99) as it took students behind the scenes to see how smARTtv
is created and to explore careers in television production.
SmARTtv is presented as part of Detroit Public Television's mission
to provide programs and services that teach and inspire.
