A Closer Walk
AIDS orphansThis program, the first film to depict humankind's confrontation with the global AIDS epidemic, presents interviews with or profiles of more than 50 women, men and young people in Uganda, South Africa, Haiti, Switzerland, India, Nepal, Ukraine, Cambodia and various locations in the United States, including New York City, Kansas City, San Francisco and Cambridge. The subjects and story lines encompass the broad spectrum of the global AIDS experience, and include people with HIV/AIDS from all walks of life; AIDS children and orphans and those caring for them; doctors, nurses and social workers; human rights advocates; and prominent scientists, economists, researchers, government leaders and NGO officials. The film addresses the underlying causes of AIDS; the relationship between health, dignity and human rights; and the universal need for action, compassion and commitment to counter what has become the worst plague in recent history. Glenn Close and Will Smith narrate.
Partnership with General Motors
General Motors has been and is an important partner in the distribution of A Closer Walk including, with HSBC, sponsorship of the film's forthcoming broadcast on PBS.
GM's commitment to a new era of AIDS awareness and education, in which hundreds of millions of people around the world engage in a battle that can, in fact, be won, is very much in keeping with the company's long history of social responsibility around the world. In this spirit, GM and its 330,000 employees are joining the fight to make a difference today for a healthier tomorrow - for everyone, everywhere.
