![]() The Kresge Challenge is On! With its award of a $1.25 million challenge grant to Detroit Public TV, The Kresge Foundation recently gave our $22 million capital campaign a major vote of confidence.
Awarded through the Foundation’s Challenge Grant Program, the support will assist DPTV in replacing obsolete analog production and broadcasting equipment with state-of-the-art digital High Definition equipment, construction of studios at our Riley Broadcast Center, and the purchase of a video production truck. The Kresge Foundation expressed particular interest in supporting the production truck to permit televising of events and stories from anywhere in the Detroit area.
We Need Your Help Now As a condition for receipt of the Kresge Foundation challenge grant, DPTV must raise the remaining funds needed to complete its “Because Minds Matter” campaign before December 31, 2008. Please share your views about the future of Detroit Public TV or request more information when you contact us today. Together, we can meet the Kresge challenge and create new opportunities for everyone to explore Detroit and our world. Thanks!
Watch us grow! The carpeting is in, the walls are painted, and the super-duper flooring is awaiting equipment. Construction is definitely well underway at our Riley Broadcast Center on Master Control and technical areas. Those areas include the Bill and Patricia Smith Broadcast Operations Center and edit rooms sponsored by Gene and Lois Miller, Mark and Lois Shaevsky, and Don and Shay Pendray. May we name an area for you? Learn about naming opportunities that reflect your interests by contacting Kelley Hamilton at 248.305.3716 or khamilton@dptv.org.

A World of Opportunity - Available to All. Detroit Public TV and PBS can inspire anyone with a TV set to engage in deeper, more meaningful ways with the world around them. We also believe in partnering with our local cultural, educational, and civic organizations to help them achieve their goals and strengthen our region.
Community partnerships and lifelong learning are at the heart of our $22 million capital campaign, Because Minds Matter, to secure the future of public television in metro Detroit.
To date, we're pleased to announce that we have raised nearly $15 million toward our goal. That success has allowed us to acquire a new facility in Wixom, Michigan, The Riley Broadcast Center, named for our lead campaign donors Dolores and George Riley and their Family Foundation. In our final technical and production phase of the campaign, we will raise the funding necessary to build out the remainder of the new Broadcast Center. The office space and infrastructure are there, but we must build out the television portion of it so that Detroit Public TV can remain freely available over the air and be a valuable partner for all in Southeast Michigan. The need is urgent because, beginning in 2009, PBS will not accept our non-digital programs. That means that, without funds for digital conversion, Detroit Public TV will not be able to showcase Michigan's artists, performers, and natural wonders to national and international audiences, nor derive revenue from our other national productions.
The campaign includes plans for a mobile production truck, which will allow Detroit Public TV to produce programs anywhere in Southeast Michigan. With your support, we're confident that we'll meet our goal and together, we'll create exciting new programs and services for children, families, and our community.
